Why don't your books have pronunciation help like other phrase books?
Our experience is that the pronunciation help in phrase books is a foreign language in and of itself. Our approach eliminates the hurdle of translating diacritical marks and foreign sounds into something comprehensible by helping you communicate in the simplest way: by pointing at what you want to say.
Why isn’t there a small talk section in the book?
Our books are designed to help you with the essential day-to-day needs of a traveler. If you don’t speak the language, small talk is best done with smiles, laughter, and gestures. Other phrase books add bulk and weight with unusable content. By giving you the essentials, it’s easier for you to find what you're looking for quickly.
How do you develop the content?
Me No Speak books are based on our own personal experiences when traveling. Our books are customized to fit your needs, whether on the road for 2 weeks or 2 months. We pay special attention to food, with custom menus to help you order in a restaurant without an English menu, or at least understand the fare. Most phrase books don’t provide the amount of help Me No Speak offers.
Don't you think people should try to speak the language when they're traveling?
Yes! We do believe travelers should learn, as much as possible, the local language while traveling. But sometimes, having a crutch (such as our book) is the difference between going hungry and having a decent meal, and is especially handy in times of emergency—like finding a toilet in time.
Why can’t I find your books in my local book store?
We’re working on it! As a small, independent publisher, distribution is our greatest challenge. Ask your local book store to carry us, and we’ll be mighty thankful!
